With Ganesh festival set to begin on Saturday, stalls and shops witnessed hectic purchases of provisions in Canacona.
The weekly Saturday bazaar was advanced by a day on Friday to meet the demands.
Residents of Canacona rushed to the commercial hub at Chaudi in large numbers for last-minute purchases as a preparation for Ganesh festival.
The market on Friday had all the needs of the festivities and with vendors quoting soaring rates it did not deter the shoppers from buying their necessary goods required for the festival.
Friday, which remained fairly a sunny day, after heavy downpour early morning, witnessed the day was ending with dark overhead cloud bringing another heavy spell of rain, catching most of the shoppers at Chaudi off-guard.
But the evening spell did not deter the shoppers, as most of the people were seen braving rains to make their last minute purchases.
Interestingly, the rain was limited unto the municipal areas and to the southern areas, while places at Khola, Agonda, parts of Shristhal in the northern side of the taluka, remained totally dry throughout the day.
The weekly vendors, whose Saturday market was advanced in view of Ganesh festival on Saturday, made heavy sales of their goods, informed sources.
Meanwhile, it was the final touch-up day for most of the Sarvajanik Ganeshotshav Mandals in the taluka, as almost all gave finishing touches to the huge pandals, while the set up of Ganesh idols and installation of other artifacts, was progressing behind the curtains at the mandals venues.
Two prominent Sarvajanik Ganeshosthav mandals at Char-Rasta and Chaudi were seen erecting massive pandals and work that had commenced since a week ago had progressed only at snails pace due to torrential rains, picked up on Friday.
The large idols had already reached at the site and its installation was going ahead behind the close curtains, the scenes which will be opened only on Saturday.
