TALEIGAO/RAIA: Portais Sporting Club, Panjim defeated Aivao Youth Club, 1-0, in the Ilyas Zone of the GFA 2nd Division League match, played at Taleigao ground, on Thursday. The match was closely contested, with both teams coming close to scoring but failing to capitalise on their chances due to poor finishing or excellent goalkeeping.
Portais relied on a strong defensive line led by Ayush Mardolkar, Nilesh Kunkalkar, Devesh Adkonkar, and Mukesh Kunkalkar, who kept Aivao’s forwards at bay. In midfield, Babush, Nelson, and Vishal controlled the tempo effectively, while strikers Vignesh Shirodkar and Mahendra Shirvoikar created scoring opportunities.
The decisive moment came when Mahendra Shirvoikar scored the only goal of the match, converting a well-timed pass from Vignesh Shirodkar.
Aivao also showcased impressive performances from Magadev Narvekar, Akshay Gauns, and Pawan in defence, while Lokesh made some promising runs upfront. However, their efforts were not enough to break through Portais’ resilient defence.
With this win, Portais Sporting Club earned their first three points from two matches, following a defeat against Agassaim Youth Club in the league opener.
Vasco City down Ace
At Tilak maidan, Vasco City SCC crushed Ace Soccer Academy, 7-0, in the Mormugao zone match. Aneesh Harmalkar scored a brace while Anston Gonsalves, Sunar Bharat Dammar, Abhishel Kumar Singh, Hrishikesh Ugrani and Chandrakant Shedad scored a goal each for Vasco City.
At Cansaulim Sports Complex ground, the match between Rising Star SCC and Velsao SCC ended in a 1-1 draw. Aditya Kumar gave lead to Rising Star while Gladson Braganza equalised for Velso SCC.
