PANJIM: While one group in the Corporation of the City of Panaji has blamed the police for the road accident which resulted in the death of Mira Mar resident George Rebello Friday, another section says that the CCP has to immediately implement the already prepared plan for four laning of the stretch, wherein residents of all houses along the road have to take their fences back.
“The mayor should sit with the MLA and get the plan implemented,” councillor Rudresh Chodankar told Herald, pointing out that if that was done many accidents on this road could have been avoided as there would have been a divider in between the lanes where those who are crossing could take a break.
The councillor wanted to know why the four laning was held up especially as all residents who had houses along the road had given undertakings to the TCP that they would demolish their fences in case the land was needed for road widening. Speed breakers and zebra crossings at designated spots could also prove critical in increasing the safety of the stretch of road.
