PANJIM: Even a week after Goa Medical College Director Admin Sanjiv Gadkar submitted his report on the GMC-Goa University result bribery allegations to the GMC Dean, it is yet to reach Dy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza who had asked for an inquiry.
Following a report in Herald on November 1, regarding a demand for a bribe for declaring result of MD student at GMC, the government had initiated an inquiry into the matter.
However, almost 15 days after initiating the inquiry, the report is yet to be submitted to the Health Minister D’Souza. “I haven’t received any report from the Director Administration GMC,” D’Souza told Herald.
However, he was quick to add, “My Joint Secretary is on leave and will be back on Nov 16. Maybe it is delayed for that, but I can’t say that’s the only reason.”
D’Souza’s comments suggest that there seems to be a lobby working overtime to save someone in the GMC Skin Department.
Sources suggest there are efforts being made to sabotage the report as the accused involved is an influential person and politically well connected. Sources also reveal that the inquiry report into the result bribery allegations has remained inconclusive due to the absence of the complainant.
An MD student had complained that her result was kept pending for nearly one and half month for a bribe of Rs 1 lakh by a senior doctor.
After questioning the Skin HoD and the other resident doctors, Gadkar had submitted the report last week to the GMC dean Pradeep Naik which was forwarded to the Health Minister via the Health Secretary. He had, however, not spoken to the student.
Herald had reported that the result of only one MD student in the Skin Department was on hold for a month and half while the rest were declared.
The student is seven months pregnant and allegedly being tortured by the senior doctor. The HoD has refuted allegations saying the delay was due to technical error and nothing else.
