Political rivals have been quick in finding fault with Modi`s ‘Surgical Strike’ on Black money with many accusing him of deliberately timing the demonetization move in order to gain an unfair advantage in the forth coming Assembly elections in some States, including Goa. Leaving political binkering and the temporary hardships aside, that fact is that our Prime Minister has taken a very bold trail blazing step and every honest well meaning citizen of this country needs to stand by him in this endeavor. Politicians will always play politics but what is good is good. Narendra Modi deserves our trust, our support in the mammoth task he has undertaken. It isn’t easy to administer the bitter medicine to a country of a billion plus!
But while it takes great political courage and guts to start a war on black money, it takes much more than that to sustain the war and give it a happy ending. Modi may have managed to get the tail of the Black Money monster by demonetizing the 500 and 1000 rupee notes but the monster itself has only gone underground. It will start roaring again soon enough if the demonetizing move is not followed up by more fundamental and enduring reforms & measures to plug in the loop holes that allow the black money economy to flourish and that too without harassing the common man. India has to create a system which rewards the honest; a system where honest citizens can thrive and flourish through honest enterprise.
Being creatures of habit, it’s quite natural that we resist change but we need to think before raising an unnecessary hue & cry over little hardships when attempts are being made to cleanse the system.
Crores of people die a slow death in this country because of malnutrition. Crores of people die because of lack of medical facilities. Problems that the country cannot address effectively because of the mother of all problems-corruption!
For all the expert speculations and analyses, only time will tell the effects of Modi`s ‘kaddak Chai’ on the country… Even if corruption and the black money that goes with it is cut down to half, the country should be able to see a remarkable difference in public utilities and services. Modi has struck his neck out and if he is not able to delive, then the much lauded “Master Stroke” is likely to prove a very costly political joke.
