Anjana, Anar, Aashrun and Yash enter final

PANJIM: Anjana Kumari and Anar Singbal moved into the under-17 girl’s singles final of the Manohar Dhond memorial Major Ranking Badminton tournament, at the Indoor stadium, Campal, here, on Saturday.

PANJIM: Anjana Kumari and Anar Singbal moved into the under-17 girl’s singles final of the Manohar Dhond memorial Major Ranking Badminton tournament, at the Indoor stadium, Campal, here, on Saturday. Aashrun Gautam will clash against Yash Kunkoliekar in the final of the under-17 boys singles.
In the under-17 girl’s singles semi-final, Anjana Kumari got the better of Manjushree Raut in two straight sets 21-19 and 21-19. In the second semi-final match, Anar Singbal grounded Megan de Souza 21-9, 21-7 to seal her place in the final.
The under-17 boy’s singles semi-final saw a close encounter between Aashrun Gautam and Dhruv Angle which was ultimately decided in the third set. Aashrun clinched the first set 21-13 but went down to Dhruv 20-22 in the second set. However, Aashrun came back strongly in the final set to edge past Dhruv 21-19. 
In the other semi-final, Yash Kunkoliekar had a comfortable outing as he got the better of Mehul Jirage 21-14 and 21-13. 
The under-15 girl’s singles semi-final saw Yasmin Sayed beat Lydia Barretto 21-17, 19-21, 21-18 and Manjushri Raut beat Megan de Souza 21-10, 21-8.
Mehul Jirage beat Sushil Nayak 21-18, 21-19 and Curt Coutinho beat Soham Khandeparkar 21-13, 21-10 in the boy’s under-15 singles semi-final. 
In the girl’s under-13 category, Lydia Barretto beat Simran Pathak 21-6, 21-5 and Arshia Gautam beat Anosia Chiraya 21-9, 21-9 to secure a berth in the final.
Soham Khandeparkar got the better of Ayaan Sheikh 21-16, 21-12 and Tejas Tendulkar beat Arjun Fallary 21-16, 21-17 in the under-13 boy’s singles semi-final.
