Panjim, Goa: A fire broke out at the municipal building in the city on Wednesday, causing panic among the occupants of the premises. The incident, which occurred in the evening, was attributed to a short circuit originating from a refrigerator inside a shop within the building.
According to the Panjim Fire and Emergency Services, the short circuit ignited a fire that rapidly spread. The flames engulfed the plywood placed above the malfunctioning refrigerator, resulting in smoke emanating from the shop. This alarming situation prompted a call for assistance at 7:36 pm, leading to a swift response by the fire crew, which managed to extinguish the fire.
However, due to the absence of the shop owner at the time of the incident, an assessment of the extent of the damage could not be immediately estimated. The incident underscores the importance of fire safety measures and vigilant maintenance in commercial establishments.
