MARGAO: Alleging that the State government is trying to set a false narrative about the rising unemployment rate in Goa, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao stated that the government’s tall claims on employment generation have fallen flat with the latest annual report of the Ministry of Statistics Programme.
He has also demanded that the Chief Minister must immediately release a white paper on the unemployment in Goa as implementation ranking Goa second in the Country and 3.2 percent above National average with 9.7 percent unemployment rate.
It is loud and clear that the “Rojgar Melas”, “Mega Job Fairs” organised by the Central and State Government are nothing but publicity stunts. The Government of Goa spent 3.10 crores on mega job fair 2022 which provided employment to hardly 576 youths from 21,780 youth who had registered for the mega job fair, stated LoP.
He further said that as per the data provided by the Government to him in the last Assembly Session, 1,15,190 unemployed youth are registered with the employment exchange. Out of these only 2,817 youth were provided regular Government jobs while 22,986 were employed in the private sector.
This Government has become directionless. The recent apprenticeship scheme launched by the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant promising school drop outs a stipend of Rs 8,000 per month is actually encouraging the students to drop out from the Schools. Government needs to rethink the said scheme and provide stipend to those students who complete the skill development course, Alemao demanded.
