PANJIM: A Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) councillor has written to the Department of Tourism demanding that the contract or the lease agreement with the Dona Paula Ventures Pvt Limited for using the jetty be cancelled.
In a letter addressed to Assistant Director of Tourism, CCP councillor Nelson Cabral has demanded that the government withdraw or cancel the agreement licence granted to Dona Paula Ventures Private Limited and restore back the Dona Paula jetty in its original state.

Cabral has mentioned that due to the system of compulsory payment of fees by the tourists to visit Dona Paula jetty, the business of the locals has become bleak. The locals are undergoing a lot of trauma to make their living and manage their families, he has said.
Cabral has said that the contract or lease agreement stipulating a period of 15 years for reopening the Dona Paula jetty is deplorable and hence it should be cancelled.
The CCP councillor said the residents and the villagers are disturbed by the act of the government to install a gate at the Dona Paula jetty restricting the inflow of the residents and the villagers due to which people living within the vicinity are unable to freely visit and enjoy the scenic beauty and the comfort in which they have been living through out.
“It is distressing that the youth of the locality have been compelled to shift to various destinations due to the law and order situation,” Cabral said.
