PANJIM: Spot electricity billing will start from August 1 and by November 1 entire billing in the state will be streamlined with either monthly or bi monthly billing, department sources said Thursday.
An all Goa complaint number – 135 – for electricity complaints will also start from mid August. The work order for spot billing has been issued around eight days back to a Bangalore company and the government will pay a little more than Rs 10 per bill to the company, they said.
The Power Minister Milind Naik had informed the Assembly that the government would soon introduce spot billing to reduce the delay in issuing electricity bills to citizens in response to a starred question. Naik had also said that, the government would also outsource the job of electricity meter reading to a private company.
On the call centre issue the department is to allow the contractor to run the call centre on a pilot basis for three months at a cost of some Rs 20 lakh and after evaluating it for three months it would then be streamlined for regular operations.
Presently, consumers call the telephone numbers of their respective sub-divisional office to lodge complaints. The call centre personnel have to be proficient in four languages ~Konkani, English, Hindi and Marathi.
PROCEDURE FOR FILING COMPLAINTS: Once a complaint is lodged, the call centre will assign a number to it. The engineer of the concerned area and sub-division division will be informed.
Then the junior engineer will check the fault, inform the call centre about the estimated time for rectification and convey this information to the consumer.
