Salcete trounce St Rock

Salcete Football Club downed St Rock’s Sports Club, Fatrade, Varca 3-1 in GFA’s First Division League at Raia panchayat ground, on Monday. Salcete were leading 1-0 at the breather.
Salcete were the better side and enjoyed a slight edge over their opponents in the opening sessions with Valente Silva and Joshua Vaz working in tandem with midfielder Francis Andrade to put the rival defenders under tremendous pressure.
Salcete went into the lead in the 4th minute when striker Joshua Vaz beat the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot off a well measured pass from Valente Silva.
Stung by the early setback, St Rock’s tried their best to neutralised the lead but filed to get past the rival rearguard.
Salcete too had chances to increase their tally but their forwards either shot wide or shot straight into the safe hands of rival keeper.
But it was St Rock’s who neutralised the lead when Melvin Fernandes put his team on equal terms in the 50th minute.
Stunned by the equaliser, Salcete went into the attack with their forwards creating forays into the rival territory and their efforts paid the dividends in the 66th minute when Valente punished the rival keeper with a clinical finish off a pass from Sleagan Gomes.
The goal spurred Salcete to mount pressure on the rival defence and created many positive forays with Sleagan rounding off the tally just before the final call.
