PANJIM: “I would want to win the ISL more than the golden boot,” expressed FC Goa’s star striker Ferran Corominas.
Though they lost in final, the league saw plenty of positives for the Goan franchise. FC Goa displayed an attacking brand of football maintaining goal scoring consistency and club’s hero — Ferran Corominas becoming the highest ISL goalscorer and also retaining his golden boot for second consecutive season.
The Spaniard will create history if he manages to be at top on the goal scorer’s list this year. But Coro has set aside personal glory and aims nothing but winning the league. “This year no golden boot, but only ISL,” quipped Coro.
The FC Goa striker has scored 34 goals in last two season in ISL, making him one of the most deadly striker the league has witnessed.
“I am happy that I managed to win the golden boot for last couple of years but for me the key is to win the ISL,” said Coro.
When asked how not being the leading goalscorer and winning the title would work out, Coro instantly answer, “The aim of the team is to win every match. Goal scoring is the consequences of good things done in other areas on the field. The aim is to improve every game,”
Ferran scored 41 goals in all competitions in his last two seasons and has 16 assists to his name.
“This year my concentration is on just winning the title. And I will also take all my chances and help my team. I will work more hard in building the game, providing assists and helping the team in forming a collective approach in winning the title,” explained Coro.
The team will play their first ISL match against Chennaiyin FC on October 23 at Fatorda.
Last season FC Goa won their first silverware after the Super Cup triumph! But that didn’t ease the pain of losing the Indian Super League (ISL) title by a ‘whisker’ in the final against Bengaluru FC.
After five footballing seasons, Last year under the tutelage of Spanish gaffer Sergio Lobera, the Gaurs saw their hopes of winning the much awaited ISL title which were dashed in the AET in the final. The hopes and dreams shattered yet again as pursuit continues for the prestigious crown.
With every passing year, the expectations of the fans increase and so the burden on the players. But Coach Sergio Lobera expressed his satisfaction of having a ‘good season’ last year.
“Last year we lost one final, and we won another. We won the Super Cup and weren’t empty hand. We had a good season,” said Lobera.
“The only way to improve then last year is to win the ISL title. But it wouldn’t be easy as all the teams are competitive and will give us good fight. I am excited for this season and I am confident my team will give their best,” concluded Lobera.
