CORTALIM: Stating that Goans will not get influenced by threats of the State BJP government, South Goa Congress candidate Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco appealed to the electorate to elect him to the Parliament.
Speaking at meetings in Cansaulim, Zuari Nagar and Dabolim, Lourenco said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was only making promises and demanded to know his achievements in the last two years.
“The chief minister today is denying that he was not responsible to stop mining, but I have video clip to prove otherwise and am prepared to show it, if the chief minister wants to,” he said.
“The chief minister and his people are also threatening the electorate of discontinuing government schemes like Ladli Laxmi if Congress was elected,” added Reginaldo and said he would challenge the chief minister to do so.
“The chief minister should know that the schemes are being doled out of public money and no favour is being done by the government in sanctioning the schemes,” said Reginaldo.
Social activist Tara Kerkar said atrocities on women had increased under BJP rule. “Smriti Irani is giving an example of Delhi rape, but in Goa there have been so many rapes which have not been detected so far,” said Kerkar.
She also accused the BJP leaders of forcing people to notarise documents when the mamlatdar could do the same free of charge. She said stamp paper and other service charges had gone up and the public were being made indirectly to pay for these schemes.
While speaking at Cansaulim, Dr Marconi Correia said Parrikar had gone back on his promises of acting against casinos, had done nothing on the Regional Plan which is being exploited by builders in its present form and also failed on minority commission.
Others present and who spoke at the meeting included Martha Saldanha, Adv Radharao Gracias, Panch Jose Maria Furtado, Devedra Kenkre and Premanand P Naik. Former Cortalim sarpanch Anthony Miranda compered the meeting.
