Two unidentified armed men opened fire at Casino Majestic director Shrinivas Nayak outside Majestic Paradise in Porvorim on Friday night, triggering a major police operation across Goa. Nayak escaped unharmed after his security guard returned fire, forcing the attackers to flee. Police have since launched a manhunt, examined CCTV footage and begun probing the motive behind the apparent targeted attack.
7:45 PM–8:00 PM | Shooters Take Position
According to preliminary police information, the two assailants entered the parking area of the premises between 7:45 pm and 8 pm. They allegedly hid between parked vehicles, giving them a clear view of vehicles entering and leaving the property.

Investigators are examining whether the attackers had conducted prior reconnaissance and how they knew Nayak’s movements. Police are also checking CCTV footage from inside and outside the casino to establish their movements before the shooting.
Around 8:45 PM | Nayak Leaves Office
The attackers waited for nearly an hour before Nayak came out of his office on the premises and walked towards his vehicle.
As he was about to get into his car, the two men allegedly approached him and opened fire at close range. Police and media reports indicate that three rounds were fired by the attackers. Nayak immediately moved back towards the hotel lobby after coming under fire.
Seconds Later | Security Guard Returns Fire
Nayak’s security guard reacted immediately and fired three rounds towards the attackers. The exchange meant that six rounds were fired during the incident.
The retaliatory fire forced the assailants to abandon the apparent attack. Nayak and his security personnel escaped without injuries. Nayak later said he ran back into the hotel after the attackers opened fire.
8:45 PM–8:50 PM | Attackers Flee
The two men fled from the premises and crossed the road towards the Panaji-Mapusa highway. Police sources said the suspects may have arrived on a motorcycle, while investigators are working to establish their exact escape route.
Late Friday Night | Police Launch Manhunt
Senior police officials reached the scene as Porvorim Police, the Crime Branch and other teams began investigating. Forensic personnel examined the area and collected evidence, including bullet shells, while CCTV recordings from the casino and surrounding locations were secured.
Police subsequently launched a statewide alert, with nakabandis and checks being carried out at various locations. Teams were also tasked with tracing the suspects’ movements beyond the crime scene.
Early Saturday | CCTV Trail Emerges
A preliminary examination of CCTV footage helped investigators identify the physical appearance of the two suspects. Footage reportedly showed the men moving through the casino premises before the attack.
Police are also examining whether anyone inside the casino may have provided information about Nayak’s movements. Officials are checking the behaviour and movements of guests as part of this line of inquiry.
Saturday Morning | Motive Still Unclear
An FIR has been registered at Porvorim Police Station, including charges related to attempt to murder. Multiple police teams continue to search for the attackers.
The motive remains under investigation. Police are examining several possibilities, including business rivalry, but no theory has been officially established.
The shooting has also triggered a political response, with Goa Congress questioning the state’s law-and-order situation, particularly because the attack occurred close to the Porvorim police station and senior police offices.
As of Saturday morning, both suspects remain at large, Nayak is safe, and police are continuing to piece together the attackers’ movements, possible insider links and the motive behind the shooting.
