PONDA: It may sound strange but Mardol locals are an exception to the rest of the Goans when it comes to paying an annual visit to crematorium not just to clean it but to spend some quality time with one another.
According to available information, once a year, the locals gather and clean up the entire crematorium. Besides, after cleaning up the place, they enjoy each other’s company by holding a get-together wherein food is served. The entire place converts into a meeting place.
The locals prefer a holiday to carry out such cleaning exercise and spend quality time with a get-together just for that much-needed relaxation after work.
According to Mardol locals, once a year they visit the crematorium not only to clean it but to enjoy the company of each other. Adv Varad Mardolkar, a panch and Goa Youth Congress president said, “This activity is something special in the village that once in year we visit the crematorium to clean it and enjoy quality time with one another.”
