PANJIM: Anjuna Gymkhana started their campaign on a good note registering a 4-2 win over St Anthony Sports Club, Marna-Siolim via the tie-breaker to advance into the next match of 11th London Trophy 2017 organised by Goa Velha Sports Club, at Goa Velha Sports Club ground, on Saturday.
Kedar Dhargalkar of St Anthony Sports Club was the first to make a move as he received the ball from Sherwin Lobo but his goal bound effort was saved by the Anjuna Gymkhana defender Akshay Dabholkar.
At the other end, Rohan Kamble released Nitesh Salgaocar, who however shot straight into the St Anthony SC keeper Salil Chari. There was no score at half time.
After the break, Vinayak Mulgaonkar floated the ball into the St Anthony SC box but Myron Dias with only Salil to beat shot straight into the goalkeeper’s hands. Again, Vinayak after a fine run shot powerfully from 30 yards but his shot missed the St Anthony SC goal by a whisker. Sherwin set up Vipul on the right, who controlled the ball, but Sangam failed to capitalise on it.
There was no score at full time. In the resultant tie-breaker, Anjuna Gymkhana scored through Rohan Kamble, Akshay Dabholkar, Dinesh Morajkar and Soma Korgaonkar. Somshekar Kumar’s effort was saved by the rival keeper Salil Chari.
St Anthony SC netted through Naresh Nair and Sherwin Lobo. Anthony D’Souza shot wide while Glen Fernandes’ effort was saved by the rival keeper Soma Korgaonkar.
