School complex concept needs to be regulated: Shantaram

PANJIM, JAN 11 School Complex concept in Goa needs to be regulated by making proper provisions in the Rules framed under Education Act, so that, the concept grows in a properly understood manner, said MP Shantaram Naik.

School Complex concept in Goa needs to be regulated by making proper provisions in the Rules framed under Education Act, so that, the concept grows in a properly understood manner, said MP Shantaram Naik.
He was addressing the annual gathering of Barabhumi High School at Tambi Surla in Sanguem Taluka, on Saturday.
Naik said that the school complex idea was mooted by the Kothari Commission in 1964 but, in Goa, necessary attention has not been paid towards the concept except by issuing a few departmental guidelines.
Naik also appealed to the government to make an evaluation of the infrastructure requirement of the schools as regards school buildings, toilets, playground etc. and render the institutions possible assistance.
Naik also stressed the need for finalisation of Goa Education Policy, which is pending, at the drafting stage for quite sometime. He said that the policy should be oriented towards inculcating the principles of secularism in the minds of students from the very beginning.
Naik declared that he was going to recommend a project costing Rs 15 lakh to the Barabhumi High School for constructing a hall for laboratory, yoga and gymnasium from the MPLAD Scheme.
Samir Salgaocar who was the guest of honour at the function, said that projects worth crores of rupees have been undertaken by Goa Government at the instance of his father, MLA Anil Salgaocar. Salgaocar said that Sanvordem Constituency which was a neglected constituency before the present government came to power is now getting full attention of the government.
Dharbonda Zilla Panchayat member Govind Sawant said that every student has some hidden talent in them and, the parents and teachers have to recognise it and encourage them, accordingly.
At the outset, Chairman of the Barabhumi Education Society, Madhavrao Desai made a welcome speech. Headmaster Shivaji Desai read out the annual report.
Vice President of the society, Sadashiv Gaoncar, proposed a vote of thanks.  Sukdo Gaonkar and Mrs Reva Raghavan compered the proceedings of the function.
