MARGAO: Goa BJP president Damu Naik has criticised Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral over his recent remarks concerning the party, saying they may have been made out of “political insecurity”.
Naik recalled that Cabral was associated with the Congress in 2011 before joining the BJP and receiving the party ticket to contest the Curchorem Assembly seat. Cabral subsequently won the constituency on a BJP ticket in 2012, 2017 and 2022.

Naik also pointed out that Cabral had been given ministerial responsibilities and is currently a member of the BJP’s Core Committee.
He said that if Cabral had concerns about the party or its candidate selection process, they should have been raised with the party leadership rather than through public statements. Naik said the BJP has an established procedure for selecting candidates and that no ticket has been offered or assured to anyone for the Curchorem constituency at this stage.
Naik further recalled that the BJP had won the Curchorem seat even before Cabral joined the party, referring to Ramrao Desai’s victories from the constituency.
The BJP state president also said that a report containing Cabral’s remarks has been forwarded to the party’s central leadership in Delhi for consideration.
