MAPUSA/MARGAO: Instances of tourists taking to dangerous stunts and liberties seems to be unending in Goa. Now the Mapusa Police are on the lookout for the driver of the SUV, whose video has gone viral on social media. In the viral video two children are seen sleeping dangerously on the roof of a Telangana registered SUV, putting their own lives in danger, while the father is seen driving the SUV.
Mapusa Police stated that the incident occurred on December 27 at Parra, Bardez. The video depicts a concerned bystander, who shot the video going up to the driver, and questioning him about the safety of the children on the rooftop of the SUV. However, the driver reportedly disregarded the querry and continued driving without addressing the situation, according to law enforcement officials.

The Mapusa Police have filed a case against the driver involved and registered an FIR at the Mapusa police station. Efforts are on to identify and locate the driver of the Telangana registered vehicle. Cases have been filed under sections 279 (rash and negligent driving) and section 336 (endangering human life) and investigation is being carried on by HC Keshav Naik, under the supervision of Mapusa PI Sitakant Nayak and overall supervision of DySP Jivba Dalvi.
Meanwhile, the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) has filed a complaint with the police in connection with a viral video wherein two children were seen sleeping on the roof of a moving SUV on a road in Parra.
GPSCR also urged the public to avoid such activity as it endangers the lives of children.
“The video in question is deeply distressing, with an alarming scene depicting two young, innocent children sleeping on the roof of a moving vehicle. This conduct can be described as dangerous and shows parental negligence, posing an immediate threat to the safety and welfare of these minors,” said Peter Borges, GSCPCR Chairperson.
“Permitting children to sleep on the roof of a moving vehicle not only represents a clear violation of the law but also places these vulnerable lives at severe and potentially disastrous risks, i.e. immediate danger of a fall, as well as the potential for traffic-related accidents,” he added.
It may be recalled that Goa Police have already registered an FIR into the case.
Borges stated that they had filed a complaint on the day of the incident itself before the Superintendent of Police (SP) North Goa and Mapusa Police Inspector.
‘This unsafe and negligent act poses a significant risk to the well-being of the children involved, as sleeping on the roof of a moving vehicle is not only illegal but also extremely hazardous. The Commission kindly requests your prompt investigation into this matter and urges you to take necessary actions against the owner of the SUV for endangering the lives of his children. Kindly find a compliance report on the action taken on this matter,” read the complaint.
