MARGAO: A splendid second half strike from Nickson Rebello helped Union of Chinchinim Villagers eke out Curtorim Gymkhana 1-0 and advance into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Eslinda Alemao memorial inter-village football tournament, organized by Navelim Villagers Union, at Sinquetim ground, Navelim, Saturday.
There was no score at half time. Chinchinim dominated both the sessions and created umpteen forays into the rival territory but could not score due to poor marksmanship.
At the other hand, Curtorim Gymkhana slowly took control but could not beat the rival defence.
Crossing over, Chinchinim put up a better display and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. The all-important goal came in the 45th minute when striker Nickson Rebello unleashed a volley to crash into the net.
Stung by that setback, Curtorim Gymkahna went all out but failed to get past the strong rival defence.
