PONDA: Following continuous rainfall over the last five days, several incidents of damaged houses, uprooted trees and snapped power lines were reported in Ponda on Sunday. Fire personnel were busy clearing debris throughout the day.
According to Shiroda Sarpanch Sandesh Prabudessai, there were many incidents of trees falling on houses and across roads. He informed that heavy winds began to blow at 11.30 am and lasted until 1.30 pm. Regarding the trees that fell on electricity lines in Gawlan and Talpan, he said that power restoration at both villages could not be completed.
In Haldai Vaze, Shiroda a tree fell on Gopi Naik’s house, badly damaging it and causing damages of Rs 1.50 lakh. A house in Talpona belonging to one Gaonkar was damaged after a tree fell on it, causing damages of Rs 70,000. A huge tree also fell across a road in Gawlai. Other incidents of trees collapsing on houses and roads were reported in Dhonshi, Bandora, Agapur, Sacorda, Curti, Khadpabandh and Usgao.
