MARGAO: The residents from Salcete have complained about the frequent power outages and voltage fluctuations that have caused them great inconvenience and damaged their household electrical appliances.

Recently, there was a massive power outage at Fatorda and Margao that lasted over 45 minutes and troubled commercial establishments as well. The streets had plunged into darkness on account of the streetlights not functioning either.

The shopkeepers complained about the load power outages put on their backup power supply, which is expensive to maintain and pointed out to the frequent power outages recently, especially whenever it rains.

The commercial establishments on the coastal belt have also complained about the difficulties they have to face when these power outages take place constantly. However, the biggest issue the residents have is that the sudden change in voltage has damaged household electrical appliances and this has forced them to incur expenditure for replacing or repairing these appliances.

“These are not cheap items. Irons, refrigerators, air conditioners, TV sets, these are expensive. As it is, the power bills have increased and one would think we would have got a better power supply,” said Christopher Fernandes, a resident from Margao.
