MARGAO: The unauthorised sale of fish along the roadside near Navelim Church and on National Highway 66 continues unabated, with authorities seemingly indifferent to the issue while this obstruction continues to cause inconvenience to commuters and disrupts the smooth flow of traffic.
Commuters have long faced difficulties, particularly during peak hours, due to the flourishing fish market at Navelim junction. It may be recalled that the Navelim Gram Sabha had also expressed displeasure over the ongoing illicit sale of fish.

Despite Navelim Sarpanch Lucia Carvalho’s written appeal to the district traffic cell, citing complaints from a building proprietor at Navelim junction, there has been insufficient response or action from authorities.
In one instance, the police had temporarily evicted the fish vendors but they had returned to the site within days and subsequent enforcement actions remain elusive. Adding to the concern, fish vendors have now expanded their operations onto National Highway 66.
Those who have raised objections to this have emphasised the potential dangers on the busy highway and raised concerns and questions about who will take responsibility for the safety hazards, and in case there are accidents on the stretch.
