MAYEM: The delegation of a hospital visiting committee of Primary Health Centre (PHC) Bicholim on Wednesday requested Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to provide necessary facilities in the hospital and to resolve grievances of the people.
The delegation led by the committee president Arun Naik met Parsekar at Panjim to apprise him of a lack of basic facilities at the Bicholim PHC and later submitted a memorandum in the connection.
“In the absence of gynaecologist, many patients are forced to shift to District Hospital or GMC, which puts burden on ambulance and increases the sufferings of the people,” said a member.
They said the hospital also lacks a sonography machine, while the ambulance is allotted only 200 litres of diesel per month despite covering almost 3,000 kms during this period. The memorandum stated that the hospital doctors do not have a vehicle required for various inspection sites and schools, due to which they are compelled to use the ambulance for the purpose.
“The number of OPD patients and the in-house patients has increased and one medical officer is not able to attend the patients,” states the memorandum.
The memorandum also included requests to increase the hospital security, installation of CCTV cameras, replacing an old X-ray machine with a digital one and providing an orthopaedic surgeon at least twice a week on Wednesday and Friday to cater to the needs of about 50,000 patients every month.
After listening to the grievances, Parsekar assured the delegation to look into the matter to solve the grievances as early as possible.
