MUMBAI:?The organizers of the Indian Super League (ISL), on Tuesday took the decision to extend the deadline to sign marquee players for all competing clubs.
Initially, the deadline had been set for June 30 but with many of the franchisees unable to wrap up their marquee deals swiftly, they requested that the deadline be extended.
“Considering the request from League Partners, ISL has granted one-time extension on signing marquee player deadline by three days, i.e Thursday, July 3,” read an official statement from the organizers.
Whilst stating that there will be no further extension to this deadline, the organizers have clarified that any club unable to sign a marquee player independently will have to choose one from the list that will be provided by the ISL itself.
“These players, then, will form part of a central marquee player pool,” revealed the statement.
Atletico de Kolkata, Kerala Blasters and North East United FC are just three of the eight participating ISL franchises who are confident of wrapping up deals for their marquees on their own.
Franchises like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, though, are feeling the squeeze in their efforts to sign a marquee due to the requisite formalities associated with the signings.
