MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has finally decided to install traffic signals at major junctions and circles in the town and at Fatorda to control traffic.
At its standing committee meeting, the MMC also decided to have a Citizen Facilitation Centre at Fatorda and map the non-taxed/assessed houses and commercial establishments.
Chairperson Babita Angle said, “Traffic signals at major circles and junctions in Margao and Fatorda have been agreed in principle and the MMC has decided to go ahead with the traffic signals at Arlem Junction, Bolshe Circle, Colva circle and others. The party which is handling the circles at Titan Verna junctions has approached us and said that they will handle these too”.
The issue of the traffic congestion near the Vishant Theatre was also raised at the meeting and ward councillor Avinash Shirodker demanded revocation of the licence to the mall in the theatre’s basement.
The councillor threatened to launch a stir if the issue is not solved.
The MMC also decided to have a facilitation centre for Fatorda in coordination with NIC for software support. If it proves to be a success in Margao, the same will be replicated in Curtorim too.
In an important decision the MMC has decided mapping of all trade, business establishments and houses in Margao and a blueprint of the entire town will be prepared.
“The survey will be done on the lines of other municipalities and the cost will be recovered through taxes,” she added.
