Those criticising me, don’t know what they’re talking about: Mauvin

VASCO:  Facing a backlash for his statement of regularising illegal houses on comunidade lands, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho hit out at his critics and said that ‘some people who are criticising him are ill-informed and do not know what they are talking about’. He added that he has been following up on the matter of legalising houses in comunidade lands for many years.

“The person belonging to Margao Comunidade, who had criticised me over my statement to make houses on the comunidade land legal, is ill-informed and doesn’t know what he is talking about. I have been trying to legalise these houses since a long time ago and have been regularly discussing and following up with this issue with the Revenue Minister,” added Mauvin. He added that in the case of the Chicalim village, the Chicalim Comunidade has come forward prepared by doing a survey all their land. He implied that this was done so that the illegal houses can be legalised.

“On this basis, I can legalise the houses, which are in comunidade land at a faster rate” Godinho added. He further questioned whether the houses should be demolished and if people should be made to live on the road, just because their houses are illegal. He termed that reasoning as ‘foolish thinking’. He further revealed that it is a code mandated thing through the Componentes of Comunidades, wherein its committee had been convinced to regularise by bringing an amendment to the code and that this is being done legally and not illegally.
