PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has adjourned to August 31, the next hearing of a petition challenging the constitution of Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) Ward Committees.

The High Court while seeking an explanation from the CCP and State Government had directed those 21 nominated members to file an affidavit about their qualifications.
During the hearing on Thursday, advocate Ashwin Bhobe appearing for the CCP sought time to seek appropriate instructions from CCP.
The Goa Government has already informed the High Court that rules for constituting the Ward Committees by the CCP are in the process of being framed.
The Director of Municipal Administration Tariq Thomas in his affidavit on Wednesday had stated that CCP Ward Committee Rules 2020 proposed under Section 391 of the CCP Act have been prepared and are under the process of obtaining government approval. He has further stated that draft rules once published will be kept open for 15 days for any objections or suggestions from the public; and that the rules would prescribe norms for the recognition of the NGOs and requisite qualifications for nomination of members on the Ward Committees.
Advocate Aires Rodrigues filed a plea alleging illegal constitution of the ward committees by CCP.
