Nobody takes responsibility for the injuries to locals and tourists. The authorities only say, “We have put up sign boards to warn the motorists.”
Though the road from St Anthony’s Chapel to Calangute market (via panchayat office) was closed for traffic, locals and tourists have to make use of a road dug-up by JICA workers. The road from St Anthony’s Chapel to St Alex Church is another dangerous road. The dug-up areas have caved in and the road is very bumpy. The areas near chambers are especially dangerous for two-wheeler riders.
The road from St Alex Church to Little Flower of Jesus Primary School, Gaura Vaddo is also in a sorry state. Many vehicles have been grounded on the dug-up road despite the JICA completing the works long ago.
The JICA had also assured in writing to tar the holiday street road in Gaura Vaddo by May 14, but the road is still in bad shape. The locals, especially the business community, hope that it will be fixed soon.
Meanwhile, the digging work for the JICA project continues on the main road leading to Calangute-Candolim. School children are badly affected by the closure of the road from St Anthony’s Chapel to Calangute market. They have to take a longer route to reach to their schools in Calangute and surrounding villages.
