Mormugao Council LDC suspended over forgery charges

VASCO: A lower Division Clerk (LDC), of Mormugao Municipal Council was placed under suspension by the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) over charges of alleged forgery and misappropriation of municipal funds.

Mormugao Chairperson Leo Rodrigues said that the LDC staff was earlier issued a memo from the chief officer based on complaints received by the citizens. He alleged that the LDC staff had forged the signature of the Assistant Tax Officer (ATO) and also used fake stamps to offer payment receipts.

Rodrigues further said that after a woman had complained to him, he forwarded the matter to the DMA for appropriate action and seized all the documents before the LDC was suspended and inquiry ordered against him.

The Chairperson further disclosed that the earlier chief officer had also issued the LDC a memo in a different case after a citizen complained against him. This is the second incident where the LDC allegedly misappropriated around Rs 32,000, Rodrigues said appending more such complaints against the said LDC.

The modus operandi of the LDC was to collect money from citizens by telling them to clear their dues and issue them payment  receipts with forged signatures and fake stamps to issue payment receipts to people.
