PANJIM: Calangute Panchayat on Friday filed a police complaint against certain persons in respect of missing cash of Rs 47,88,068 from the panchayat treasury.
The panchayat has also submitted a memorandum to the State government urging them to suggest future course of action and steps to be taken in this missing cash matter.
Addressing the media, Deputy Sarpanch Sudesh Mayekar said, “After us taking over the panchayat the charges were handed over to us and after that what we found was shocking. There was no actual handover wherein formal custody of cash book was handed over after explaining the balance as on the date of taking over.”
He said, “There upon, after making due enquiries, they realized that the entries in the cash book were not reconciled and the same was also reflected in the audit report.”
