CANACONA: Canacona Police on Saturday intercepted a pickup for transporting liquor worth over Rs 4 lakh without valid documents. The vehicle with the consignment and the driver were handed over to Excise Department after the panchanama.
Canacona Police said that after receiving information provided by a caller to the SDPO, Quepem Kiran Poudval, a trap was laid by police in front of Canacona Police Station.
At 7.15am on Saturday while checking the vehicles matching the description given by the caller, a pickup driven by Mohamad Samin Shaikh was intercepted and was found illegally transporting 270 whisky boxes of various brands.
The total liquor quantity of 2358 litres, which was to be transported to Margao from Canacona without valid documents, was valued to be worth Rs 4.2 lakh.
The raiding team comprised of PI Sudesh Narvekar, PSI Ramesh Shirodkar and other personnel.
PI Narvekar said the vehicle with the seized goods and the driver were handed over to Excise Department for legal action as per Excise Act.
