Major concerns of the health and well being of the residents living in close proximity to these areas due to release of untreated raw sewage has been raised in the past only to fall on deaf ears of the department.
The sewage released in open is a potential health hazard and public nuisance to commuters and the residents. Complaints have been filed by Savio Dias for implementation of measures to stop pollution of the ground water due to sewage.
MMC Chairperson Babita Angle said, “The Sewerage Department has to look into this matter. This drain needs to be covered first as it can be a potential breeding place for vector borne diseases. This is emanating lot of smell and is an eyesore in the town.”
“The gutter here is filled with sewage. People hold the councillors responsible for the flow of sewage into the drains. This has to be cleared soon by the Sewerage Department,” said Councillor Peter Fernandes. “The nullah opposite the court is also filled with sewage and has been causing nuisance,” he added.
“These things should not happen in a big town like Margao and Fatorda areas as this is a health hazard for people commuting and living here. The sewerage department has to inspect the drain and has to solve the problem immediately,” opined Tito Cardozo.
“We appeal to people and establishments to stop releasing sewage water into drains and take sewage connection and release the waste water in the proper channel,” Tito appealed.
