MARGAO: Tuesday would mark a week since nature’s fury wrought havoc and destruction in South Goa.
Sadly, though it would be nearly a week on Tuesday since an old tree came crashing down on Hospicio Sisters (Nuns) quarters, neither the broken tiles have been replaced nor the tree removed from the structure till date.
Sources said the situation has forced the nuns taking shelter in the premises to go in for a makeshift kitchen as the government machinery is yet to repair the broken roof and replace the tiles. It is learnt that the nuns had conveyed a message to the Hospicio management about the delay in carrying out the repairs, but in vain. Sources said that PWD workers had made their presence felt at the nuns quarters on Friday, but they did not make good use of the sunlight to repair the roof or get the tree towed away.
When contacted, Hospicio Medical Superintendent Dr P Naschinolkar told Herald that the damaged roof will be repaired in the next few days once the rains subside. “There’s been no sunlight since the heavy rains hit the state since Tuesday last. PWD workers have inspected the site and the repair work would start soon,” Dr Naschinolkar said, trying to make light of the situation.
