PANJIM: The southwest monsoon was more active over Goa, as very heavy showers lashed the State on Saturday. Margao has so far received 200 mm in the last 20 days, while Old Goa, Panjim and Sanguem have recorded 160 mm rainfall.
As per the daily bulletin by Indian Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon has become vigorous over the State and heavy showers and stormy winds will continue till next week.
However, the 24 hours rainfall climbed another peak on Saturday as the day recorded 125 mm rainfall, higher than normal.
The total rainfall recorded in the State by Saturday was 627.4 mm. The rainfall departure rate is also moving towards the positive side as it has reached the 18% mark, which means good rainfall. As heavy showers lashed the State, the Fire and Emergency Services received a number of calls for help. The services has responded to over 150 calls, most of which dealt with uprooted trees and landslides.
