RAIA: SCC Loutolim emerged champions in the 1st Antonio Rebelo memorial inter-village football tournament defeating Verna SC 6-5 via tie-breaker in the final played at DSYA ground, Curtorim, recently.
In an exciting final watched by huge crowd, both teams played an excellent football. SCC Loutolim had their first chance to score when Shelford Fernandes shot was well-saved by Verna SC goalkeeper Jose Silveira. Verna SC created good moves with Ajay Datarkar in the midfield but strikers failed to score.
In second half, both teams tried their best to score but in vain. At the end of regulation time, the score remained 0-0.
In the resultant tie-breaker, SCC Loutolim won 6-5, with Shelford, Royce, Steve, Aryan, Darren and Hanson scoring, while for Verna SC Andrus, Joasle, Hilton, Cyrus, Romario were on target.
Chief guest Curtorim MLA and chairman GIDC Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco facilitated five sportspersons (awards presented by Curtorim Gymkhana) from Curtorim namely Vilton D’Cruz and Ryan Fernandes, for winning bronze medals at the 37th National Games 2023 in pencak silat martial arts; Jossel Mascarenhas, for representing Goa senior women championship at Kerala in 2021; Venson Paes, for winning gold at Special Olympics in Germany and Livio Mascarenhas for outstanding contribution for Curtorim Gymkhana as a media manager in the presence of Simon Pereira (sarpanch VP Orlim), Rui Menezes, Norbert Gonsalves, Savio Madeira, Brahmanand Shankhwalkar, Bento Endro, Roque Mascarenhas, Andrew Ferrao, Cosme Oliveira (GFA executive members) family members of late Antonio Rebelo and club officials.
