PANJIM: It’s not often when Goa makes news on social networking sites and when it does it’s either on tourism issues or its unique culture and related facets, or sensational crimes against women.
But on Saturday, #Goa was up and fluttering when the monsoon actually rejuvenated spirits, and set the laughter mills churning on popular social networking sites about the day’s developments.
Not just Goa, but along with it the #LKA referring to senior party leader L K Advani, who was conspicuous by his absence at the party’s national executive and chief spokesperson Prakash Javadekar too made it to the trending topic list.
The first among equals was author Chetan Bhagat whose tweet: “A lion doesn’t need an official announcement that he is the king of the jungle. People should just relax in Goa,” made the first waves even securing a tweet from the account of the fans of Subramanian Swamy club as well as other celebrities and personalities.
But it was wit that stole the day: “The last time someone created such a fuss over a trip to Goa was your girlfriend’s father,” a tweet by a user called Gabbar Singh read.
“Q: Why did BJP land up on Goan beaches in khaki knickers? A: To wash their dirty linen.” a tweet by another user by the name of Dr N Vikramaditya goes? Others poked fun at L K Advani’s age, saying it was quite unusual for an aged person to choose to visit Goa.
“People are protesting coz a 85 year old man is not going to Goa. when I want to go to Goa chupchaap kaam pe dhyan do !!” a tweet from a user named Anand reads.
It was not just the social media, but the BJP’s Goa deliberations hogged prime time in the national media too including live tweeting by several national as well as local media representatives keeping pace with the developments at the meeting, which were all closely followed.
