MAPUSA: Host Goa continued their impressive performance as they hammered Dadar & Naga Haveli 14-0 in the Hero Santosh Trophy-West Zone Qualifiers, Group B and qualified for the final phase, at Duler stadium, here, on Friday.
Goa who were in total control of the match led 7-0 at the breather with striker Olvin Cardozo and medio Denson Fernandes scoring four goals and Aaren D’Silva netted three goals each with Ribhav Sardesai, Stendly Fernandes and Sanson Pereira also getting their names on the score sheet.
Aaren D`Silva opened the scoring for Goa in the fourth minute from a pass made by Olvin Cardozo and it did not take long as Olivin made it 2-0 after being put through by Ribhav Sardesai.
Having already booked their place from Group B, coach Levino Anthony Periera gave an opportunity to other players in the squad who did not disappoint as it was goal feast as they kept scoring at regular intervals.
It was 5-0 for Goa by the end of half hour of play through Aaren D`Silva, Olvin Cardozo and Stendly Fernandes as they continued their onslaught with Denson Fernandes getting a hold off a pass from Olvin Cardozo fired the ball into the net to make it 6-0.
Ribhav Sardesai who was very impressive on the right side of the Goa midfield made it 7-0 when he guided the ball past the keeper from a cross delivered by Samuel Costa.
Changing ends, there was no respite for the Dadar lads as Goa pumped in seven more goals with Olvin Cardozo justifying his inclusion in the starting eleven scoring in the 49th and 58th minutes.
The score line became further embarrassing for the opposition, after Denson Fernandes (51st, 72nd & 87th mins) Aaren D’Silva (70th min), substitute Sanson Pereira (81st min) found the net to round up the score tally 14-0.
Speaking to Goa coach Levino Anthony Pereira said his players came with fine performance though he brought seven changes in the line-up, as his team had already qualified for the final phase.
Levino further said that he would be assembling the team every fortnight till the final rounds take off.
Earlier, chief guest and Mapusa MLA Joshua de Souza greeted the players before the kick off.
In the morning match, Rajasthan managed to scrape past Madhya Pradesh by 2-1 margin to secure their first win in the ongoing league.
Rajasthan in charge Lino Pereira brought a change in his starting XI by fielding Yash Tripati while at the other end MP coach Ashrujit Chatterjee brought three changes from the last league match.
In the 14th minute, MP stunned their opponents with Bikram Sarkar guiding the ball into the goal off a cross.
On resumption of play, Rajasthan coach Lino Pereira brought an intelligent change by bringing medio Shivam from the bench which saw the team come with repeated raids on the rival citadel.
In the 59th minute, Shivam was tackled inside the penalty box by MP defender Dalwinder prompting referee to point to the dreaded spot. Amir Sohel saw his penalty strike being saved by MP keeper.
After exerting tremendous pressure finally Rajasthan tasted success when Ishan Rosario cross was tapped in by Sanjay Lamba, into the goal.
Just two minutes later, in a counter attack, Shivam Bhaker scored from an individual brilliancy to make it 2-1.
