MARGAO: Mount Mary’s High School, Chinchinim outplayed Our Lady of Health High School, Cuncolim 4-3 via the tie-breaker to clinch the Juniors Cup of Union of Chinchinim Villagers in the under-14 inter-school invitational football tournament organised by the Union of Chinchinim Villagers, at church ground, Chinchinim, on Saturday.
At the end of regulation time, the score was 1-1.
The teams put up a beautiful performance by trying to score with the support coming from the spectators of both the sides.
Mount Mary’s HS took the lead in the very sixth minute through striker Mydon Menezes. His right-footer grounder crushed into the nylons of Our Lady of Health HS. Melroy Fernandes assisted.
Our Lady of Health HS in search of an equaliser made an attempt in the 14th minute. Leefan Fernandes after receiving a through cross from Ronald Simoes failed to head in.
But soon Our Lady of Health HS equalised when Rohan Rodrigues’ deft placement shot settled into the nylons of Mount Mary’s HS.
Crossing over, both the teams dominated the proceedings and tried to score the match winner but the defence played a stellar role by guarding their respective goals and the game was mostly confined to the midfield.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Mount Mary’s High School emerged victorious 3-2.
Martin Pereira, former headmaster of Mount Mary’s High School, Chinchinim was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of guest of honour Greg Noronha, former physical education teacher of Mount Mary’s High School.
Earlier, Charlton Fernandes welcomed. Carlos Fernandes compered while Joe Meny proposed a vote of thanks.
