MARGAO: Curtorim Gymkhana defeated Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 4-2 in the semi-finals to book the final berth in the 44th Custodio memorial football tournament organised by Raia sporting Club, at Raia panchayat ground, on Saturday.
In the first half, the score was 2-0 in favour of Curtorim Gymkhana.
Don Bosco Oratory in the very 4th minute came close to scoring but Joel Camara’s shot hit the goal post and went wide. Ashley Araujo missed another opportunity in the 10th minute.
Curtorim Gymkhana took the lead in the 21st minute when Marcus Fernandes’ rasping shot entered the nets of Don Bosco Oratory with an assist of Melvin Fernandes.
Curtorim Gymkhana immediately doubled the lead in the 23rd minute with Melvin, after receiving a through pass from Agnelo Martins, tapped the ball in.
Crossing over, Curtorim Gymkhana put up an impressive performance. Don Bosco Oratory reduced the margin in the 38th minute through Joel Cardozo’s long range short. Ashley assisted.
Curtorim Gymkhana in the 40th minute scored the third goal with the solo efforts of Melvin to complete his brace.
Soon Curtorim Gymkhana made the issue safe by netting the fourth gaol in the 57th minute through Agnelo’s half volley placement. Stefen Fernandes assisted. Don Bosco Oratory tried their best to reduce the margin and scored the second goal when Ashley’s deft placement settled into the rival net off a Francisco Andrade pass.
