Police rule out murder in PWD Eng death

MARGAO: A week after the PWD Executive Engineer Pravin Fatarpekar was found hanging dead in his house at Gogol, the Margao police have asserted that the autopsy report does not support the murder theory behind the death even as the cops said that investigations are on to find out if there was any abetment that led the engineer to commit suicide.

Police say that the murder angle is ruled out as the autopsy report clearly shows that the death was due to asphyxia by hanging. “Besides, the ligature on the deceased neck, not a single injury has been found on Fatarpekar’s body during the post mortem examination,” said Margao Sub-divisional Police officer, DySP Mohan Naik.
“The ligature mark in forced hanging is different from a suicidal one. Moreover, there’s always a scuffle or struggle in a forced hanging, resulting in injuries. The autopsy has not found any injuries on the body of the deceased,” he added.
Margao Police station in-charge, PI Sudesh Naik says that that investigating Officer, PSI Girendra Naik is probing into Fatarpekar’s unnatural death though no formal complaint has come from the family till date.
“We have recorded the statement of Fatarpekar’s mother, who was inside the house when he ended his life. The police will record the statement of Fatarpekar’s wife after the 12 day mourning period as part of the investigations”, he said.
Sources said the police have sought the call details of Fatarpekar’s phone from the Cellular companies in order to find out the persons who had called up Fatarpekar before his death. “A PWD Assistant Engineer has been called by the investigating officer for recording of statement. We may call others who may throw light on the circumstances that might have prompted Fatarpekar to take the drastic steps,” PI Sudesh said.
