The state of
Goa is witnessing a rather generous
dose of downpour this year, and while this may be off-putting for some, the
locals know that this is the time of the year when Goa is in its most beautiful
form. It is rather fitting then, that the Goan youth does its bit to match the
charisma of their home land and up their personal style quotient. Wardrobe
refreshments are a must for this season, not because you don’t have enough
clothes or accessories but because it’s necessary to keep up with the fashion
trends.
Anaita Fernandes, a
student of the culinary arts, from Margao, strongly feels that bold colours are
here to stay. She says, “Pastels are considered a summer trend, but the youth
are trying out similar tones in this season as well—the colours that are
favoured are of the warmer and bolder kind. Colours like maroon, green, peach,
cool magentas, chocolate brown, Prussian blue or denim-ink blue have been among
the favourites since time immemorial, and in all styles, especially in
jumpsuits, off shoulders, ruffles, cold shoulders, short dresses, and can also
be seen in daily causal college wear. I picked up this cute magenta skirt from
the Saturday Night Market in Arpora last year that I am in love with. The best
point about magenta is that it looks extremely stunning in pictures.”

For Aditya Kapadia, a
marketing professional working with a national real estate firm in Vasco,
watches make for a great accessory to experiment with and adapt to different
styles. Aditya says, “A funny thing happened when the smartphone took over all
of our timekeeping needs: Men got really into watches. Aesthetics became
everything. Oversized watches are passé, and now men are getting used to
smaller, dressier watches again. I picked up this lovely white dial Fossil
watch on one of my trips to Dubai, which remains my prized possession till
date.” Aditya confesses that he has a few others too, with different variations
of leather and metal straps, and shapes and colours of dials. “I shop online
and the flash sales help reduce the damage to my wallet. One does not always
have to shell out copious amounts of money, but yes, when you find something
that grips your heart, I’d suggest going for it.”
“Eyeglasses
are perhaps the most underrated accessory that, if played with well, can go to
great lengths to alter your look significantly,” says Onella Rodrigues, a
student of mass communications at St Xaviers College, Mapusa. She adds, “I try
to stay updated with global style trends by following a few fashion bloggers
and feeding myself with a good amount of information from fashion magazines. My
style can be best described as casual; I like keeping it simple and
accessorising my looks. I recently picked up this cute pair of Coco Leni wooden
frame eyeglasses. One can also look for online deals and choose among other
full frame and rimless glasses. Also, I have noticed that round sunglasses are
still ‘in’. In past seasons, it was considered a statement item. Now, it is an
essential part of any eyewear collection.”
