MARGAO: Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro has directed Public Works Department officials to immediate provide alternative accommodation to the four families whose mundkarial houses are scheduled to be demolished very shortly.
He said this has to be done immediately as there is a marriage scheduled in one of the houses.
PWD officials had visited the site today to demolish the houses of Dumetin Pereira, Albina Pereira, Thomas Alex Fernandes and S R Jose Peixote, whose son is supposed to marry on January 18.
Luizinho pointed out that none of the four mundkars received any compensation, which was usurped by someone else.
He said former chief minister Manohar Parrikar had directed the PWD to acquire additional land and construct a house in a plot of 400 sq mts for each of the families and accordingly three plots have been demarcated.
He recalled Parrikar assuring that the houses would be ready by Christmas 2017 and lamented that not a single house is ready even two years later.
He lamented that the government is now all set to demolish their houses even though they were supposed to provide them with alternate accommodation.
After much discussion, he asked the PWD engineers to resolve the issue and asked the government to honour the promise made by former chief minister.
