camurlim: The Revenue Minister, Jennifer Monserrate has revealed that the government will try to compensate at the earliest those affected by the flooding that occurred last week.
She announced this during her visit to the major affected areas in Camurlim on Tuesday. On Saturday, the Collector had directed the mamlatdar to conduct an assessment of the losses incurred by the farmers and citizens. Only once this claim is submitted will the compensation be carried out. “The Dy Collector and everyone have been working overtime to ensure that there was no loss of life. There is damage to property because water was released from the Tillari Dam, which was very unfortunate actually. I am taking stock of the situation so reports will be prepared on time and people can get whatever compensation they have to. We will work as fast as we can because right now preliminary assessment reports are being prepared,” said Jennifer.
“Once everything comes to the office I will have to sit with the CM and discuss on this matter. We would like to disburse the money as soon as possible. Assessment of all damage is being done and CM has promised to look into this matter,” added the Revenue Minister.
Bardez Mamlatdar Laxmikant Kuttikar said the assessment of loss incurred is in progress and that the report of the same will be submitted to the Collector on Friday.
A local pointed that all the losses incurred by them should be compensated by the govt as they were not informed that water from the Tillari dam was being released. “Whatever we have shown as our loss should be given to us and we will not settle for anything less. The government should take up corrective measures to ensure that a similar instance of flooding does not occur in our village. We are thankful to few NGOs for providing us with drinking water during the floods,” said the local. Due to the continuous rains belting the State last week, people were safely evacuated from inundated areas across the state and taken to safer places.
