MARGAO: Bearing in mind the popularity of Ganeshotsav in the Konkan region, several additional measures have been taken by Railway Protection Force of KRCL to beef-up security, in order to cater to the heavy rush of passenger in the Ratnagiri region of Konkan Railway and to make the journey of passengers convenient, comfortable and safe.
For additional security, one company of Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF), comprising of around 100 armed staff, has been deployed in Ratnagiri region, along with RPF staff for crowd control and maintaining law and order.
To augment existing staff and to ensure a high-profile presence of uniform personnel, the RPF staff from other regions of KRCL have also been mobilised and deployed at major stations over Ratnagiri region. RPF staff will also be strategically deputed to escort the most-affected trains during the period.
As an extensive security plan to maintain a hawk-eyed vigil for the Ganesh festival rush and security of railway passengers, additional CCTV cameras have also been installed at Khed, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavali, and Sawantwadi stations, in addition to the existing 151 CCTV cameras installed in the railway stations over Ratnagiri region.
As a part of awareness campaign, advisory pamphlets are also being distributed among passengers in trains and stations by RPF with regard to drugging, theft etc. Further, RPF staff has been sensitized for quickly responding to messages received through Twitter, All India Security Help-line No. 182 etc in case of any security-related problems. To further bolster manpower, 74 Home Guards has also been deployed in Ratnagiri region for assisting RPF. Police authorities have also assured of assistance in maintaining law and order in railway premises.
