PANJIM: The National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee on Wednesday submitted to the Jal Shakti Ministry, the report on the salinity of River Mhadei due to the proposed water diversion by the Karnataka government.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant during his discussion with the Jal Shakti Minister had raised his concerns of increasing salinity in the Mhadei due to the proposed diversion by Karnataka.
The Jal Shakti Ministry had then entrusted a study on salinity to the NIH and its scientists visited Goa three times to establish observation sites on the Mhadei River and its tributaries.
As part of their study, the two scientists Gopal Krishan and Nitesh Patidar also visited the Kalasa dam site at Kankumbhi in Karnataka.
Meanwhile, the special leave petitions (SLPs) filed by all the three riparian States – Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra – challenging the Mhadei Water Disputes Tribunal award is likely to come for hearing before the Supreme Court on July 20.
