MARGAO: The family members of the daily wage workers who are waiting for justice on their confirmation have decided not to vote in the upcoming Municipal elections.
Beleaguered daily wage workers along with their family members of Margao Municipal Council, on Wednesday, met the Chief Officer of MMC, Agnelo Fernandes, and pleaded for the early settlement of the matter pending in the High Court.

Since neither the MMC nor the government had filed their reply to the petition filed by the 12 daily wage workers in November 2020, the matter could not make much progress, as such, they appealed to the Chief Officer to relieve them from their hardships at the earliest.
Daughter of worker Ms Sangeeta Madar stated that their joy had no bounds when her father was issued a confirmation order in December 2019, after 20 years of service on a daily wage.
However, their joy was short lived as within a few months, the confirmation orders were kept in abeyance despite completion of the joining formalities. “With great difficulty, we have to manage our family needs and are hopeful that my father and his other colleagues will get justice from the Hon’ble High court,” Sangeeta said. Due to the Covid pandemic, we have lost our private jobs, and now have to depend solely on my father’s meagre salary,” she added.
Another family member of a worker, Shanti Velip ruing over the fact that after supporting several councillors and MLAs during elections, she said, “Today we stand as orphans and are compelled to knock on the doors of the court. What is the point in voting when the representatives fail to fight for our cause?”Velip questioned.
The workers exuded full confidence in the High Court even if the authorities were trying to play hide and seek in their matter.
