CURCHOREM: Yielding to the demands of residents of Curchorem-Sanvordem and neighbouring areas, authorities have sanctioned a halt to the Vasco-Vailankanni direct train at the Curchorem-Sanvordem railway station.
The train will stop at Curchorem-Sanvordem Railway station from June 17 and the decision has been conveyed by the Railway Board Delhi to the Divisional Office of South Western Railway (SWR), Hubli, informed the Curchorem station master.
The Train 17315 (Vasco-Vailankanni) will arrive every Monday at 9.54 am and will depart at 9.55 am, while the Train 17316 (Vailankanni-Vasco) will arrive at 6.14 pm and depart at 6.15 pm from the Curchorem Railway station.
People from Curchorem-Sanvordem and surrounding areas, including Curchorem BJP Block president Ashish Karmali, Curchorem Congress Block President John D’Costa and members of Curchorem-Sanvordem Rail Consumer Association, have welcomed the decision of railway authorities.
Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral has expressed happiness in the matter and has appealed to the people to gather at the railway station to welcome the train on June 17 at 9.30 pm.
It may be recalled that South Western Railways officials had assured that the Vasco-Vailankanni train would halt at the Curchorem Railway station within a month, after residents of Curchorem-Sanvordem and neighbouring areas gathered at the railway station to agitate on May 27 to demand to grant halt at Curchorem.
