Electricity Executive Engineer Sudan Cuncolienkar said the incident occurred after metal roof sheets which were being transported in a goods rickshaw touched the overhead electric lines, following which the neutral wire was snapped resulting in a blast and voltage surge in area damaging electrical appliances. He said locals are complaining of losses and demanding compensation. The department will forward their complaints to the government, he assured.

“Our officials inspected the area. We have directed the police to file a complaint against the goods rickshaw driver for negligence,” Cuncolienkar said.
Tuesday morning, the 73 locals along with Panchayat member Krishna Naik rushed to the Electricity Department at Curti and filed complaints about the losses they had suffered. They demanded inspection by the department and payment of compensation for losses they suffered.
The power was restored after half an hour but in the humid climate locals were forced to spend sleepless night without fans, ACs, and cooler which were damaged due to the power spike.
Vishwesh Naik, an Adpoi local said around 73 houses were affected due to the high voltage, damaging electrical goods. This includes 63 houses in Ward 7 of Durbhat and 15 houses at Ward 6, at Adpoi.
The average loss was estimated at Rs 15 lakh and may even exceed as final estimate is not done yet.
Panchayat member Krishna Naik said all the locals who were affected had signed a joint memorandum and submitted it to the department mentioning the number of damaged goods and loss suffered by them.
Sarpanch Chandan Naik of Durbhat-Adpoi-Agapur Panchayat said efforts would be made to provide help to locals informing government about the details of loss suffered by villagers.
The villagers of Adpai, Village Panchyat Adpai-Durbhat-Agapur had filed complaint with the AE of Curti Power Sub Station inviting attention to safety which is a serious issue faced by the residents of Adpai village.
The voltage fluctuations have not only damaged essential appliances but have also disrupted our daily lives and added unexpected financial burden. “We seek compensation for the losses incurred due to this sudden voltage fluctuations. We also request an inspection of our village’s electrical infrastructure to identify and rectify any such issues. We trust that you will treat this matter with the urgency it deserves and look forward to a prompt resolution,” the memorandum read.
