MARGAO, JULY 6
The High Court has issued notices on the Margao Municipal Chief Officer and the Margao Municipal Employees Association on the writ petition filed by the Green Goa Foundation for the implementation of the bio-metric finger scan reader in the Margao Civic body.
The petition will come up for hearing in the court on July 26.
In the petition the Green Goa Foundation headed by Chairman Raison Almeida had prayed to the court for a writ of mandamus directing the Margao Municipal Council to implement the attendance of employees by use of the bio-metric finger scan reader.
The petitioner stated that the bio-metric finger scan machine is the most effective means of recording the employees’ presence in the office and ensuring they do not skip work.
He pointed out that realization of the importance of such a machine, the civic body issued an other directing the employees to record their attendance on the bio-metric finger scan machine, adding that there was disobedience of the order, with workers discontinuing using the machine.
Incidentally, the use of the finger scan was shot down by the employees following protests, which prompted Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat to direct the Margao Municipal Council to keep the proposal on hold.
